﴿ Introduction ﴾
“If you can stop yourself from writing, then you are not a writer. (But you may not be a writer even if you cannot stop yourself.)”
— Gene Wolfe
The Castle of the Otter (1982)
It is only by getting my ymagination out into the real world in some sort of organized fashion that I am able to experience anything close to a sense of internal peace. That is what all of this writing is for. It is not that I feel that my opinions are going to be of such great value to others, but rather so that I can get some sleep.
This volume groups all of that sort of material as follows:
These sections are arranged in order of their likelihood of change; that is to say, 1) at the early, solid end I expect that I will have less to say about the tutorials as I round out my work life and move into retirement, 2) throughout the middle span I will exhaust whatever it is that I am discovering about myself (and people like me), and then finally, without being morose; 3) as time goes on, there will be more to write in the memorial section (until such time as I no longer write). And of course, even right through to the end, there is always room for miscellany.
If you find any of these maunderings to be useful, then that’s a pleasant coincidence.
